These 20 photographs of the Olympics, Athens 2004 portfolio, were shot with a Sony SureShot digital camera at the Panathinaiko Stadium on 8/19/04 and the Olympic Stadium on 8/25/04. The images were treated in Photoshop® using the software only to crop the photos to an appropriate composition ratio.
There is no telephoto on the SureShot, so, some of the photos were shot placing the camera lense on the left eyepiece of a set of binoculars.
Dimitris Sivyllis was born in Athens, Greece in 1958.
He was given his first Kodak instamatic 104 104 at the age of 6 and by the age of 17 photography had become his main interest and full time endeavor.
In 1980 he graduated from the London International Film School and spent the next ten years as a commercial photographer in England and Greece before moving to Massachusetts in 1990 and making the transition from photography to print production and then software and website design.
He taught film making in Athens from 1985 to 1987, and photography in London in 1980-81, at the Southcoast Learning Network, New Bedford, Massachusetts in 2003 and 2004, and at the Boston Center for Adult Education from 1990 to 2006. He now lives and works as a photographer and web designer with his wife near Florence, Italy.
The recurring theme in his work is the contemplative observance of details in the moments of time.
